| Video Discription | Adenoids are lymphoid cluster located in the nasophaynx situated behind the nose. When it increases in size, can lead to various problems like nose block, hearing loss, repeated nose and sinus infections, sleep apnea, crowding/protrusion of teeth and mouth breathing. Child may have lack of concentration, learning issues and may appear dull and lethargic with open mouth. Adenoidectomy is the only definitive treatment for this condition whereas nasal sprays and drops may provide temporary relief in some children. Conventional Adenoidectomy although an effective treatment is a blind procedure where one may lead behind a chunk of tissue high up. With the advent of rigid endoscopes and better illumination more and more doctors are preferring endoscopic methods. In this video endoscopic adenoidectomy is done using a microdebrider instead of curette (which is used in conventional method). Thus setup gives us various advantages including better and direct visualization, controlled removal, complete removal, avoids damage to surrounding structures like eustachean tube opening.
