This patient has requested surgery to correct her aging neck. She asked for a neck lift. Upon her evaluation, she was noted to be a good candidate for minimal incision submental neck lift. The surgery would address some skin looseness, a certain amount of excess fat as well as some looseness of platysma muscles in the neck. There are a few steps involved in this surgery. First, the liposuction of the neck is performed with a small cannula. Only a small well-hidden incision is made under the chin. This is done under direct vision in a very controlled fashion. The platysma muscle is sutured to each other to recreate the youthful foundation of the neck. The excess neck skin is redistributed in the submental area. This surgery is done on an outpatient basis with a rather quick recovery. There is minimal bruising and swelling. The patients typically can return to regular activities in a few days. This surgery is indicated for patients with moderate skin looseness and some excess fat in the neck. This is a powerful procedure when performed by a skilled surgeon and a properly selected patient. The final appearance reveals a slimmer, youthful and natural neck appearance.
