| Video Discription | Contractual teachers, Shiksha Mitra, across Uttar Pradesh, on Monday sought the President and Prime Minister’s permission for euthanasia as the Allahabad High Court declares the state government’s move to regularise them as illegal. They gave a memorandum, addressed to President Pranab Mukherjee and District Magistrate seeking permission for euthanasia stating that the High Court’s order has put their “careers at stake”. So far, eight teachers have committed suicide. The Shiksha Mitra was appointed by the SP government in 1999 in UP to gather vote bank. As such when it came into power in 2012, the party gave a green signal and started its work to regularise the Shiksha Mitra. By June 2015 the government had regularised nearly 1.3 lakh Shiksha Mitra when TET qualified teachers took the matter to court. The Shiksha Mitra continue to boycott their work and have sent 500 letters to PM in this regard. Similar protests were also held in various districts, including Lucknow, Sitapur, Deoria.
